With our Microdermabrasion skin freshening treatments, you can see immediate improvements in your skin's appearance. What is Microdermabrasion?
Microdermabrasion is a non-surgical, non-invasive process that offers safe and controlled skin abrasion. This procedure utilizes micro-crystals of a high medical grade, which are propelled at a high speed across the skin's surface to abrade the skin's tissue. Debris and used crystals are vacuumed into a sealed waste container, which are then disposed of. This technique, also known as "The Lunchtime Peel" by Vogue and Elle is very quick, relatively painless and results are seen immediately. There is no downtime, side effects or risk of contamination or skin infection.
How soon will I see results?
After your first microdermabrasion treatment, your skin will have a fresh pink glow. Improvement continues throughout your treatment program. The number of treatments recommended for maximum results ranges from four to six.
Is the system safe?
Absolutely. Microdermabrasion is safe for all skin types and colors. The procedure gently removes a very thin layer (10-20 microns) off the top of your epidermis. Best of all, the treatment requires relatively no anesthesia, discomfort, or recovery time.
How long does the procedure last?
The total treatment time for the face is under an hour.
What type of machine do we use?
We have a Rejuvasilk 2000, a physician level machine. Rejuvasilk(tm) is manufactured by Ideal Logics, Inc. for distribution exclusively by PMSI, a wholly owned subsidiary of ICN Medical Alliance.
Who are the best candidates?
The best candidates for Microdemabrasion are men and women who are in good health, have good skin tone and have realistic expectations. It is an excellent option for those who cannot afford to take time off for healing from laser resurfacing or deep dermabrasion. The treatment is ideal for people who have sensitive skin that reacts to chemicals or those with oily, acne-prone skin that is not improved by acne remedies.
How does it work?
The stimulated blood flow to the surface of the skin increases the oxygenation, causing an enhancement of cell renewal and collagen re-growth. The massaging action of the microdermabrasion treatment creates a flushing and cleansing effect below the skin surface resulting in a vibrant, healthy appearance and complexion.
How many treatments are needed?
We offer complementary consultations Monday - Saturday. During your consultation an overall skin assessment will be done to determine the number of treatments that will be necessary to reach your individual goal. Typically, treatments are preformed weekly for three weeks, then three additional treatments at two week intervals. Depending on the patient's skin condition, a more aggressive plan of alternating "Glycolic Facial Applications" with Microdermabrasion treatments weekly may be recommended. Patients should comply with the maintenance program to maintain results.
What should I expect after each treatment?
Results are noticeable after the first treatment. Skin should appear light pink with a soft texture. More aggressive treatments may leave a redness appearance for approximately 24 hours. Some patients may experience a light peeling after the more aggressive treatments. It is recommended that you go without cosmetic makeup; however, patients may apply cosmetic makeup after treatment over a non-irritating moisturizer. You should avoid the sun for 24 hours after treatment and when exposed to the sun use an SPF 30 sunscreen/block. Normal activities can be resumed immediately.
Are there certain products I should use?
We carry a line of glycolic products; Glyderm is a skin care program that uses glycolic acid to improve skin wrinkling, dryness, roughness, flaking, scaling and elasticity. They are great to use on a daily basis and even better if used in conjunction with the Microdermabrasion System.
Glycolic Acid Facial Applications
These in-office peels can help you see results quicker than at-home products alone. Depending on your particular skin care needs, our skin care specialist will select from a range of 20% to 70% glycolic acid concentrations. In time, as your skin becomes more accustomed to the effects of glycolic acid, we may decide to increase the strength to deliver the results you want. This is a good treatment to use in conjunction with the Microdermabrasion treatments for faster results.
What is glycolic acid?
Glycolic acid is an alpha-hydroxy acid naturally occurring in sugar cane. It has been known for years that glycolic acid can improve skin tone as well as smooth and remove skin discoloration. It penetrates the skin and loosens thickened surface layers that appear as dry, rough, scaling skin. As the uppermost layers are sloughed away, skin with a smoother texture and healthier appearance is revealed. Glycolic acid is esterfied, a process that combines glycolic acid with fruit alcohols.
